A delivery tracking app for logistics in India usually starts as an Android + iOS app from ₹14,999, with a web admin panel on top. A complete system with driver app, customer tracking link, dispatcher dashboard and proof of delivery runs ₹2.5–10 lakh, depending on how many features and integrations you need. The price depends less on the map and more on what happens when the driver has no network.
This post is for transporters, courier firms, 3PL operators and D2C brands that run their own deliveries. You will see the daily problem, what the software should do, what it costs, and what to check before you sign with a developer.
What problem does a delivery tracking app for logistics solve?
Ask any dispatcher what the day looks like. Drivers call to say they are stuck. Customers call to ask where the parcel is. Proof of delivery is a photo in a WhatsApp group or a signed paper that comes back after three days. Billing waits for that paper.
The cause is poor visibility. The office does not know where vehicles are, which stops are done, or which deliveries failed and why.
A tracking app puts the driver’s location, the stop list and the delivery proof in one place. The dispatcher sees the day on one screen, the customer gets a tracking link, and the accounts team gets proof the same day.
What features should a delivery tracking app have?
Start with the features that remove phone calls. Add the rest once the first version is in daily use.
Feature | Who uses it | What it does | Version one? |
Driver app with stop list | Driver | Shows today’s stops in order, with address and customer phone | Yes |
Live GPS tracking | Dispatcher, customer | Shows vehicle position on a map | Yes |
Proof of delivery | Driver | Photo, signature or OTP from the receiver | Yes |
Customer tracking link | Customer | Shareable link showing status and estimated arrival | Yes |
Dispatcher dashboard | Office | All vehicles, stops and delays on one screen | Yes |
Route planning | Dispatcher | Orders stops to cut distance | Later |
WhatsApp status updates | Customer | Sends “out for delivery” and “delivered” messages | Often yes |
Failed delivery reasons | Driver, office | Records why a drop failed and reschedules | Yes |
Billing and POD reports | Accounts | Exports delivered orders with proof | Later |
AI reading of POD and invoice documents | Accounts | Extracts data from scanned papers | Later |

How much does a delivery tracking app cost in India?
We do not give one number for every logistics business, because a fleet of ten vehicles and a fleet of five hundred need different systems. Here are the prices we can state, and what each tier covers.
What you need | Price | What it usually means |
Mobile app, Android + iOS from one codebase | from ₹14,999 | A basic driver or customer app with a simple backend |
Web application | from ₹9,999 | A dispatcher dashboard or customer portal |
Complete app system | ₹2.5–10 lakh | Driver app, customer link, dispatcher dashboard, proof of delivery, notifications |
Third-party guides for apps in India | ₹2–25 lakh | Not Ureka pricing |
Running costs come on top. Map and location services, SMS and WhatsApp messages are charged by the provider, usually per use, and rise with volume typical monthly running cost. Google Play charges US$25 once and Apple US$99 a year for developer accounts.

How long does it take to build a delivery tracking app?
We work in two-week cycles, and you get an installable build or a working link at the end of each one. A sensible order is the driver app with stops and proof of delivery first, then the dispatcher dashboard and customer link.
The total time depends on the features in the table above and the systems you need to connect typical timeline for a complete tracking system. A tighter scope reaches daily use sooner, so we usually suggest going live with one route or one depot first.
What should I watch out for before building one?
Most tracking projects struggle for practical reasons. These are the points to check.
Weak network. Drivers pass through dead zones. The app must save stops, photos and signatures on the phone and send them when the signal returns. Ask your developer to demonstrate this with the phone in airplane mode.
Battery and phone quality. Constant GPS drains the battery, and many drivers use mid-range Android phones. The app should check location at sensible intervals, not every second.
Driver adoption. If the app is slow or in the wrong language, drivers will go back to phone calls. Keep it to a few big buttons and use Hindi or the local language where needed.
Driver privacy and data safety. Location data is personal data. Under the DPDP Act, 2023 (India’s data protection law) you should tell drivers what you track and when, and limit who can see it. Track during working hours only.
Customer data. Phone numbers and addresses should be stored securely, with access limited to people who need them.
GST and e-way bill. If you move goods, your billing and documents must fit with GST rules and e-way bills. Decide early whether the app only attaches these documents or also connects to your billing software.
Ownership. Make sure the code, the domain, the cloud account and the map account are in your name.
Can I send shipment updates on WhatsApp?
Yes, and customers already use WhatsApp every day, so it suits delivery updates better than a separate tracking app. A short message with a tracking link, sent when the parcel is dispatched and again when it is delivered, should reduce “where is my order” calls. Our WhatsApp solutions team builds these messages on the official WhatsApp Business API, which is the approved way to send automated messages. Message charges are set by Meta and your provider current WhatsApp message pricing.
Can AI help with proof of delivery and invoices?
Once tracking works, the next bottleneck is usually paper: signed PODs, invoices and lorry receipts. AI can read a scanned document and pull out the fields, such as consignment number, date and amount, so accounts staff stop typing them.
This is a second phase, not a day-one need. We start any AI work with a fixed-price pilot of about 4 weeks on your own documents, with accuracy measured before you commit. See our AI and ML development service for how that works.
Has Ureka built something similar?
One of our clients in vehicle rental needed bookings handled online. We built online booking with document upload, plus an admin dashboard for bookings, vehicles, customers and inventory. A logistics system needs the same kind of back office: a dashboard that tracks vehicles and orders, and a way for customers to upload or receive documents.
Your project will have its own details, so we do not promise the same result. We send a fixed written quote after one call, and the price only changes if the scope changes.

How much does a delivery tracking app cost in India?
A mobile app for Android and iOS starts from ₹14,999 at Ureka Technologies, and a web dashboard starts from ₹9,999. A complete system with driver app, customer link, dispatcher dashboard and proof of delivery runs ₹2.5–10 lakh. Map and messaging charges are extra and rise with volume.
Can a delivery app work without internet?
It should. Drivers pass through dead zones, so the app needs to save stops, photos and signatures on the phone and send them when the signal returns. Ask your developer to demonstrate this with the phone in airplane mode before you approve the design.
Do I need GPS devices in vehicles or is a phone enough?
For most delivery fleets a driver app that uses the phone’s GPS is enough and costs less. Separate vehicle GPS devices help when you want tracking that does not depend on the driver’s phone. Tell us your fleet size and we will advise which fits.
Can I send WhatsApp shipment updates to customers?
Yes. A short message with a tracking link when the parcel is dispatched and again when it is delivered is common. It is sent through the WhatsApp Business API, with message charges set by Meta and your provider. This should reduce “where is my order” calls.
Is tracking driver location allowed in India?
Location data is personal data under the DPDP Act, 2023. Tell drivers what you track and when, limit who can see it, and track during working hours only. We are not lawyers, so confirm your exact obligations with a legal adviser.
Can AI read proof of delivery and invoice documents?
Yes. AI can read scanned PODs, invoices and lorry receipts and extract fields such as consignment number, date and amount. We start with a fixed-price pilot of about 4 weeks on your own documents and measure accuracy before you commit to a full build.
