AI development cost in India depends on what you build, and the honest way to price it is a fixed pilot first. At Ureka, an AI project starts with a fixed-price pilot of about 4 weeks on your own data, with accuracy measured before you commit to a full build pilot price. A complete app system, which is where a finished AI feature usually ends up, is quoted at ₹2.5–10 lakh.

This post is for owners and founders who want to know what drives the price of AI work, how to compare quotes, and how to avoid paying for a full build before you know it works.

How much does AI development cost in India in 2026?

There is no single price, because “AI” covers a chatbot, a document reader, a prediction model and a custom image model. They need different data, different effort and different running costs. Anyone quoting one number without asking about your data is guessing.

What we can state is how the pricing is structured:

  • Pilot: a fixed price, about 4 weeks, on your own data. CONFIRM: pilot price

  • Full build: quoted after the pilot, once accuracy is known. Complete app systems at Ureka run ₹2.5–10 lakh. CONFIRM: typical range when the system is mainly AI

  • Comparison point: other Indian cost guides quote ₹2–25 lakh for apps. That is a third- party range for apps in general, not an AI price.

For app and web costs that sit around an AI feature, see our app development cost guide for India.

What decides the cost of an AI project?

Six things move the price. Most of them are about your data and your tolerance for mistakes, not about the model.

Cost driver

Why it changes the price

Quality of your data

Messy scans, mixed formats and missing fields take time to clean before any model can learn from them

Accuracy you need

A model that is right 90% of the time is cheaper than one that must be right 99% of the time

Volume

Ten documents a day and ten thousand a day need different set-ups and hosting

Integrations

Connecting to Tally, a CRM, WhatsApp or your own software adds work

Where it runs

Cloud, your own server or a phone changes both build and running cost

Review process

If a human checks low-confidence results, you need a screen for that

The first two matter most. A task that looks easy to a person, such as reading a handwritten challan, can be hard for a model. A task that looks hard, such as sorting enquiries into five categories, can be simple. That is why we test on your data before pricing a build.

Pilot, chatbot or custom model: which costs what?

Here is how the main types compare. We have not put rupee figures where we do not have approved ones, so each row says what the price depends on. add Ureka ranges for each type

Type

What it does

What the price depends on

AI pilot

Tests one task on your data and measures accuracy

Fixed price, about 4 weeks

Chatbot or AI assistant

Answers questions from your documents, FAQs or product data

Number of documents, channels (website, WhatsApp), handover to a person

Document extraction

Reads invoices, forms or KYC papers into fields

Document types, scan quality, accuracy target

Prediction model

Forecasts a number or flags risk, such as churn or fee defaults

Quality and history of your data

Custom generative model

Creates images or video in your own style

Training data, output quality, hosting

Why start with a fixed-price AI pilot?

A pilot answers one question: does this work well enough on your real data? Before it, you only have a guess. After it, you have a measured accuracy figure.

If the pilot works, you go ahead with a full build and the quote reflects what the pilot showed. If it does not, you have spent the fixed pilot price instead of a full project budget. We also tell clients when AI is the wrong tool. Sometimes a rule, a form or a better spreadsheet does the job.

You can read how it works on our AI pilot page, and see the wider work we do under AI and ML development.

What does a pilot actually include?

A typical pilot follows the same four steps, over about 4 weeks.

1. One call. You describe the task, how often it happens and what a good result looks like.

2. Your data. You share a sample. We check whether it is enough and clean enough.

3. A working test. We build the smallest thing that does the task and run it on your data.

4. A measured result. You get accuracy figures, the cases it gets wrong, and a recommendation on whether to build it.

You own the data and the models from day one.

Are there running costs after an AI system goes live?

Yes, and they are the part first-time buyers forget. A live AI system has costs that do not stop at launch.

  • Hosting. The model or the service it calls has to run somewhere.

  • Usage fees. If the system calls a paid AI service, the bill grows with volume. how Ureka passes through or estimates usage fees

  • Monitoring. Accuracy can drift when your documents or customers change, so someone should check it.

  • Updates. New document formats or new products need retraining or new rules.

Ask every vendor for a running-cost estimate at your expected volume, in writing, before you sign. A low build price with an unclear running cost is not a low price

What does a real AI build look like?

One of our clients, an advertising agency, had us build a custom image/video generation model for their ad concepts. The shape of that work is a narrow task and a model built for one client, rather than a general tool.

Most Indian SMB problems are narrower still. Reading supplier invoices, answering the same 30 customer questions on WhatsApp, or flagging overdue accounts are all tasks with a clear definition of “right” Those are the ones where a 4-week pilot gives a clear

answer.

When should you not buy an AI system?

Do not buy AI when the task is rare, when the rules are simple, or when you have no data. If a task happens five times a month, a person or a spreadsheet is cheaper. If the rule can be written in one paragraph, write the rule. If you have no records, collect them first.

Also be careful when a wrong answer is costly and no one will check it. In those cases the review step is part of the system, and it adds to the price.

How do you compare AI quotes from Indian agencies?

Ask each vendor the same six questions:

1. Is the first phase a fixed price, and what does it deliver?

2. Do you test on my data before quoting the full build?

3. How will you measure accuracy, and what number will you promise?

4. What are the monthly running costs at my volume?

5. Who owns the code, data and trained models?

6. Who will I talk to on WhatsApp during the project?

A vendor who cannot answer questions 1 to 3 is selling a demo, not a system. If you want a second opinion on a quote you already have, send it to us and we will tell you what looks reasonable.

What is the next step?

Write down one task you want to automate, how many times it happens a month, and what a good result looks like. Gather ten to twenty real examples. That is enough for a call, and enough for us to say whether a pilot makes sense.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to build an AI solution in India?

The price depends on the task, your data and the accuracy you need. At Ureka an AI project starts with a fixed-price pilot of about 4 weeks on your own data CONFIRM: pilot price. A complete app system is quoted at ₹2.5–10 lakh. Other Indian guides quote ₹2–25 lakh for apps in general.

What is an AI pilot and why start with one?

An AI pilot is a short, fixed-price test of one task on your own data. It takes about 4 weeks and ends with measured accuracy. You find out whether the idea works before paying for a full build, and the quote for the full build reflects what the pilot showed.

Why do AI quotes from different agencies vary so much?

Quotes vary because agencies assume different data quality, accuracy targets, volumes and integrations. Some quote only a demo, others a full system. Ask each vendor what the first phase delivers, how accuracy will be measured, and what running costs will be at your volume.

Do I own the AI model and data after the project?

At Ureka, the client owns the code, data and models from day one. Ask any vendor for this in writing before you sign, along with the hosting arrangements and what happens if you later want to move the work to another team.

What are the running costs of an AI system after launch?

Running costs include hosting, usage fees if the system calls a paid AI service, monitoring of accuracy and updates when documents or products change. Ask for a running-cost estimate at your expected monthly volume, in writing, before you agree to a build.

When should a small business not use AI?

Skip AI when the task happens only a few times a month, when the rule can be written in a paragraph, or when you have no records to learn from. A person, a spreadsheet or a simple rule is cheaper in those cases, and a good developer will tell you so.
