A WhatsApp EMI reminder bot for NBFCs sends each borrower a message before the due date, a UPI payment link, and a receipt after payment, and it logs every reply for your collections team. The admin panel behind it starts as a web app from ₹9,999, and a complete loan management system runs ₹2.5 to 10 lakh. The WhatsApp bot itself is priced after a scoping call.
This guide is for NBFC owners, micro finance heads and loan operations managers who still chase EMIs through calls and Excel sheets. By the end you will know what the bot does, what it costs, which RBI and WhatsApp rules apply, and how to start small.
Key takeaways
A reminder bot works best as part of a small loan system, so every message links to a real loan record.
Web app from ₹9,999; complete system ₹2.5 to 10 lakh. WhatsApp message fees are extra.
RBI instructions say not to call borrowers before 8 am or after 7 pm for recovery of overdue loans. Build the same window into your bot.
WhatsApp allows business messages only to people who have opted in.
Start with one product and one branch, then widen.
What does a WhatsApp EMI reminder bot for NBFCs do?
It sends the right borrower the right message at the right time, and records what happened. A reminder bot is software that talks to borrowers on WhatsApp for you, using a fixed schedule and approved message templates.
Without it, a collections team calls hundreds of borrowers a day from a spreadsheet. Calls go unanswered, promises are forgotten, and nobody can say how many borrowers were reminded last week. A bot takes over the routine messages. Your staff handle only the borrowers who reply or ask for help.
Which collections problems can the software solve?
Most NBFC collections problems come from missing data and missing follow-up, not from borrowers who will not pay. The software below fixes the routine part.
Feature | What it does | Why an NBFC cares |
Due-date reminders | Sends a WhatsApp message a few days before and on the EMI date | Fewer missed payments from forgetfulness |
UPI payment link | Adds a link so the borrower pays in two taps | Shorter path from message to payment |
Auto-receipt | Sends confirmation when the payment is reconciled | Fewer “I already paid” calls |
Reply handling | Reads replies such as “paid” ,“need extension” ,“call me” | Staff see only the cases that need a human |
Promise-to-pay log | Records the date a borrower commits to pay | Follow-up happens on the right day |
Agent view | One screen showing loan, dues, messages and calls | No digging through Excel files |
Quiet hours | Blocks messages outside 8 am to 7 pm | Stays within RBI conduct instructions |
Audit trail | Stores who sent what and when | Evidence for audits and complaints |
Branch and product filters | Splits reports by branch, product and bucket | Managers see where dues pile up |
How much does an EMI reminder bot and loan system cost in India?
The cost depends on whether you need only reminders or a full loan system. The prices below are Ureka’s published starting points. Anything not listed is quoted in writing after one call.
Scope | What you get | Price |
Admin panel (web app) | Borrower list, due dates, manual follow-up notes | From ₹9,999 |
Reminder bot on | Templates, schedule, payment link, reply handling | |
Complete loan management system | Loan records, EMI schedules, collections, reports, WhatsApp, user roles | ₹2.5 to 10 lakh |
WhatsApp message fees | Paid to Meta through your provider, per message sent |
Meta changed WhatsApp Business pricing recently. Our note on the WhatsApp Business
pricing change in India (Oct 2026) explains what it means for message-heavy businesses.
Four things push the price up or down:
1. Number of borrowers and loan products. More products mean more EMI rules.
2. Integrations. Connecting to your existing core system, payment gateway or credit bureau adds work.
3. Languages. Hindi, English and regional templates each need approval.
4. Reports. Custom dashboards for branch heads and the board take longer than standard reports.
We build in two-week builds, so you see a working link or installable build every two weeks. A typical timeline is fixed in your written quote.
Which rules should a collections bot follow?
A collections bot must follow RBI conduct instructions, WhatsApp’s opt-in policy, and India’s data protection law. We are developers, not lawyers, so confirm the final wording with your compliance office.
RBI conduct. In August 2022 the RBI told regulated entities, including NBFCs, to avoid calls for recovery of overdue loans before 8 am or after 7 pm, and not to use intimidation, harassment, threatening or misleading messages. See Business Standard’s report of 12 August 2022. Check the RBI’s latest circulars before you finalise the message tone and timing.
WhatsApp opt-in. WhatsApp’s Business Messaging Policy (last updated 23 September 2026) says you may contact people only if they have given opt-in permission. Capture consent at loan sign-up and store it.
Data protection. Borrower data is personal data under India’s DPDP Act. Our guide to DPDP compliance for website owners covers the basics of consent and notice.
Message approval. WhatsApp requires approved templates for messages that start a conversation. Allow time for approval in your plan.
The tone matters as much as the timing. A reminder should state the amount, the date and how to pay. It should never shame or threaten.
How does the reminder flow work day by day?
The flow follows the EMI date, and every step stops as soon as the borrower pays. The schedule below is an example. You set your own days and wording.
When | Message | If the borrower replies |
3 days before due date | Friendly reminder with amount, date, UPI link | “Paid” starts a check against the payment record |
On due date | Short reminder with the same link | “Need time” creates a promise-to- pay task |
1 day after | Polite follow-up with options | “Call me” assigns the case to an agent |
5 days after | Message offering help and the branch contact | Agent follows up within your set working hours |
After payment | Receipt and thanks | Loan record updated |
What should I check before choosing a developer for this?
Pick a developer who gives you ownership, a fixed quote and a plan for human handover. Fintech software holds borrower data and money records, so the contract matters more than the demo.
You own the code, data and WhatsApp account. The Meta business account should be in your name.
A fixed written quote. The price moves only if the scope moves.
A human takeover. Every borrower message can be passed to a staff member.
An audit log that cannot be edited by agents.
Speed with large data. One of our clients in lead generation had an app slowed by large data volumes. We optimised its backend and made it nearly 50% faster, with better filtering and search. A loan book with lakhs of records hits the same problem.

Where should an NBFC start?
Start with reminders for one product at one branch, then widen. A small first version reaches borrowers in weeks and shows you real reply rates before you spend on the full system.
1. Pick one loan product and one branch.
2. Load borrower records, due dates and consent status.
3. Get three message templates approved.
4. Run reminders for one month and review replies.
5. Add payment links and automatic receipts.
6. Add reports, roles and the rest of the branches.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a WhatsApp EMI reminder bot cost in India?
An admin panel web app starts from ₹9,999 and a complete loan management system runs ₹2.5 to 10 lakh. The WhatsApp bot is quoted after a scoping call . WhatsApp message fees are charged separately by Meta through your provider.
Can an NBFC send EMI reminders on WhatsApp?
Yes, if the borrower has opted in and the messages use WhatsApp-approved templates. Keep the tone respectful and send only within sensible hours. RBI instructions say recovery calls should not be made before 8 am or after 7 pm, so apply the same window to messages.
Does a reminder bot replace my collections team?
No. It handles routine reminders, receipts and simple replies. Your team handles borrowers who need an extension, dispute a charge or ask for a call, and any case that needs judgment or a conversation. The bot passes those cases to a named staff member with the full message history attached.
What data does the bot need?
At minimum: borrower name, mobile number, loan ID, EMI amount, due date, payment status and proof of WhatsApp consent. A loan management system holds these in one place, so the bot reads from the same record your staff see and nothing has to be copied between sheets.
How long does it take to build?
A small reminder version for one product is quoted with a fixed timeline. A complete loan system takes months. We ship a working link every two weeks, so you can test the flow with real borrower data as it grows, and the written quote fixes the scope.
