A website for doctors in India can start from ₹4,999 for a simple profile site, and from ₹9,999 if you want a web app with online appointment booking. It should show your name, qualifications, registration number, clinic address, timings, fees and a call or booking button. Since the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued new advertising guidelines on 6 October 2026, it should also leave out patient testimonials, "best doctor" claims and promotional offers.

This post is for doctors and clinic owners who want to be found when patients search "doctor near me" , and who want the site to stay inside the rules. By the end you will know what to put on the site, what to leave off, and what to ask a developer.

What problem does a doctor's website solve?

Most clinics already take bookings by phone and WhatsApp. That works until the receptionist is busy, the clinic is closed, or a new patient cannot find your timings.

A website solves four day-to-day problems:

Patients cannot find your details. Timings, address, fees and parking change, and old information on third-party listing sites is often wrong.

Calls pile up for simple questions. "Are you open on Sunday?" and "What is the consultation fee?" can be answered on a page.

New patients check before they visit. They look for your qualifications, registration number and clinic photos before they come.

You do not own your listing. A page on a listing platform belongs to the platform. A website on your own domain belongs to you.

A Google Business Profile (the free listing that shows your clinic on Maps) brings most "near me" searches. The website gives that listing a proper place to send people.

Two details matter more than design. The site must load fast on a mid-range Android phone over a patchy mobile network, because that is how most patients will open it. The phone number and WhatsApp button must work with a single tap.

What do the NMC advertising rules mean for a doctor's website?

The NMC issued ethical advertising guidelines on 6 October 2026, and they took effect immediately. According to Medbound Times, 8 October 2026, they cover websites, apps, social media, digital marketing and influencer campaigns.

As reported, these are the points that affect a doctor's site:

  • Identification: Electronic posts must carry the doctor's name, qualifications,

  • registration status and State or National Medical Register number.

  • No self-praise: Claims such as "number one" or "best doctor" are not allowed.

  • No solicitation: Doctors may not use digital platforms to promote procedures or profit-based services, or to solicit patients.

  • No testimonials: Doctors cannot request or share patient testimonials or reviews for professional promotion.

AI content: Misleading AI-generated content, including AI-made testimonials or patient images, is prohibited. Compliant AI content must carry a clear AI label.

Medical Dialogues, 10 October 2026 lists permitted communication. It includes announcements about starting or changing a practice, a change of address, temporary absence and a public declaration of charges. It also allows general health education material, as long as it does not promise a cure or claim superiority over others.

This is not legal advice. The reported penalties range from warnings to suspension of registration, so check your content with your State Medical Council or a lawyer before you publish.

A good developer builds the site so these items are easy to follow: a footer with your registration number on every page, no review widget, and no "before and after" gallery.

How much does a doctor's website cost in India?

A business website at Ureka starts from ₹4,999. A web application, such as a site with online booking and an admin panel for the clinic, starts from ₹9,999. A complete system that connects booking, reminders and patient records runs ₹2.5–10 lakh.

Where your needs sit depends on features, not on the number of pages. Prices for middle tiers, such as a site with booking and WhatsApp reminders, depend on scope.

You also pay for a domain name and hosting each year. Ask any developer to list these separately in the written quote, and to register the domain in your name. Our website development cost guide for India explains how these costs add up.

How long does it take to build a doctor's website?

A simple profile site can be quick to put together once you send your photo, qualifications, timings and fees. We share a working link every two weeks, so you see real pages early and can correct details before launch.

The slowest part is usually content, not code. Collect these before you start: registration number, qualifications with year and college, clinic photos, fee list and opening hours.

How should a doctor's website handle patient data?

If your site has an enquiry form or booking form, you are collecting personal data. Keep forms short: name, phone number and preferred time are enough. Do not ask for symptoms or medical history in a public form.

Ask your developer these questions:

1. Is the site served over HTTPS (the padlock that encrypts data between the visitor and the site)?

2. Where is form data stored, and who can see it?

3. Can you delete a patient's data if they ask?

4. Do you, not the developer, own the hosting account and the data?

We build so that the client owns the code, domain, accounts and data from day one.

For clinics that go beyond a website, patient records need much more care. One of our clients in the healthcare industry had hospital devices that were offline. We brought them online with a cloud system that stores patient data securely, lets doctors access it from anywhere, and gives doctors and nurses automated patient history reports and real-time analytics. That is a different project from a doctor's profile site, and it is worth planning separately. See our healthcare software development page for that kind of work.

Should a doctor choose WordPress or a custom website?

For a single-doctor profile site, a simple build is enough, and we recommend keeping it light. Custom work starts to matter when you add online booking, reminders by WhatsApp, multiple doctors or patient login. Our website development service in Delhi covers both. If you want appointment reminders on WhatsApp, see our WhatsApp solutions.

Start with the simple site, launch it, and add booking once calls and WhatsApp messages begin to pile up.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website for doctors cost in India?

A business website at Ureka starts from ₹4,999, and a web application with online booking and an admin panel starts from ₹9,999. Prices for a site with booking and WhatsApp reminders depend on scope, so we give a fixed written quote after one call. Domain and hosting are billed separately each year.

Can a doctor show patient reviews on their website?

Under the NMC guidelines issued on 6 October 2026, doctors cannot request or share patient testimonials or reviews for professional promotion, as reported by Medbound Times. A safer site leaves out review widgets and testimonial pages. Check the final wording with your State Medical Council or a lawyer.

What must a doctor's website show under NMC rules?

As reported, electronic posts must carry the doctor's name, qualifications, registration status and State or National Medical Register number. Put these in the page footer so they appear on every page. Avoid claims like best doctor or number one, which the guidelines do not allow.

Does a doctor need a website if they already have a Google Business Profile?

A Google Business Profile brings most near me searches, but it is a short listing you do not fully control. A website on your own domain gives patients your fees, services and booking link in one place, and gives the profile a page to link to.

Can a doctor list consultation fees on a website?

Yes. A public declaration of charges is listed among permitted communication, as reported by Medical Dialogues on 10 October 2026. Keep the fee page factual, show only your standard charges, and avoid discounts or offers that read as promotion of your services.

Can I add online appointment booking to my doctor website later?

Yes. We suggest launching the simple profile site first, then adding booking and WhatsApp reminders as phone calls and messages grow. A booking system is a web application, which starts from ₹9,999 at Ureka, with the final price set by scope in a fixed written quote.
